Talent Lab's program

The RIFF's Talent Laboratories' program is now ready. Please see below:

FRIDAY 25TH OF SEPTEMBER

08.00 – 8.45: Breakfast 

9.00 – 10.15: Experience geothermal swimming pools (OPTIONAL). Vesturbæjarlaug 
Swimming is a part of the Icelandic lifestyle, whether young or old, to visit the swimming pools in Iceland at least once a week to have a swim, to relax in the hot pools or to meet friends and have a chat.  
The swimming pools in Iceland are extraordinary due to the fact of the wealth of geothermal heat. That is why most swimming pools in Iceland are outside pools despite the cold weather. Swimming pools offer hot tubs, sauna, seawater tubs and of course ordinary swimming pool. 
 

10:45 – 12:00 Master Class: João Pedro Rodrigues. Nordic House.

João Pedro Rodrigues directed his first feature-length film, The Phantom, in 2000, dealing with homosexual affection and aimed at catering to the demands of a growing influence of gays and gay culture in Portugal. His second feature film, Two Drifters (2005), was presented at the Cannes Film Festival and won international acclaim. His most recent feature film is To Die Like a Man. 

11.30 – 12.15: Lunch hosted by the Nordic House 

12.15 – 13.30: Art Exhibition: Children of Nature vs. Antichrist. Hafnarhúsið.

Art exhibition at Reykjavik Art Museum displaying various art forms extracted from the films Children of Nature (1991) directed by Oscar Nominee Friðrik Þór Friðriksson and Antichrist (2009) directed by Lars von Trier. Curators: Ari Alexander Ergis and Friðrik Þór Friðriksson. 

13.30 – 14.30: A talk with Friðrik Þór Friðriksson. Hafnarhúsið.

Friðrik Þór Friðriksson is an Icelandic director  who started his film making career with experimental films and documentaries in the early 1980s. He founded The Icelandic Film Corporation in 1990, it has since become Iceland's most important production company. The company produces his films and works with other Icelandic directors as well as producers. His international reputation led the company to build a network of internationally well-established co-production partner companies, including Lars von Trier's Zentropa and most recently, Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope. His second feature Children of Nature (1991) was nominated for an Oscar as Best Foreign Language Film. 
Friðrik will touch upon his broad range of experience working as a director and producer on both sides of the ocean, working in local conditions, getting funding etc. He will give advice and answer questions. 

14.45 - 15.00: Coffee break 

15.00 – 17.00: A talk with Jessica Hausner. Nordic House.

Austrian director Jessica Hausner was born in 1972 and got a special award in Cannes for her graduation film. Hausner has made 7 films since the year 1994. Now you get a chance to hear Hausner herself and ask her questions.  
 
 

18.00 – 20.00: Screening of the Golden Egg Competition films at HELLUBÍÓ – PART 1 (OPTIONAL)

21.00 – 01.00 RIFF’s closing party and Nordisk Panorama opening party - City Hall

RIFF's closing party coincides with the opening party of Nordisk Panorama, which is a Nordic short film & documentary festival and is also a vibrant meeting-point for filmmakers, distributors and financiers - read more here

The party this year will be held in the City Hall. The award ceremony will also take place there where the Golden Egg will be given to the best Talent Lab doc or short film. Go wild! 


SATURDAY 26TH OF SEPTEMBER 

09.00 – 9.30: Breakfast 

9:30 – 11.30: Lecture and Q&A: Giorgos Lanthimos director of DOGTOOTH. Nordic House

Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek Filmmaker and a theatre director born 1973. He has directed numerous films and just recently Doogtooth, which received Prix Un Certain Regard at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Yorgos will host a lecture on how the finished script develops through various processes until it finishes the final cut of the film. 

11.30 – 12.30: Lunch at the Nordic House 

13.00 – 14.30: Producer panel. Nordic House, cellar.

A few of Icelandic producers from Iceland’s main production companies will explain how they work, give advice and answer questions.

14.45 - 15.00: Coffee Break 
 

15.00 – 17.00: Baltasar Kormákur and the new set from his feature film Vikingr. Bus trip just outside Reykjavik, start from the Nordic House.

Baltasar Kormákur is an Icelandic actor and theater and film director and film producer. Nowadays he is best known for his work as a director of films like 101 Reykjavík, Hafið, A Little Trip to Heaven (starring Julia Stiles and Forest Whitaker) and a film based on the book Mýrin (Jar City) by Arnaldur Indriðason. Baltasar is currently working on new Viking movie with an estimated budget of 60 million dollars, the Viking blockbuster will be the most expensive film ever made in Iceland. 
Here Talents will see the set of Baltasar Kormáks new feature film and Baltasar will also address the Talents and answer questions.

A special Talent Lab closing party hosted for RIFF's Talent Lab participants 2009. Video DJ (VJ) will be playing and other RIFF guest's will attend. Your last RIFF's party night! Go wild again!
