Golden Egg 2009
Winner of the RIFF 2009 Talent Laboratory, and thus recipient of the Golden Egg, is Spanish filmmaker Anna Bofarull for her short feature „Footnotes“. The Jury statement said of the winning film, „Footnotes is a brave and honest study of what it really means to be a nation. It analyses the subconsciousness of Spanish nationality and addresses the the price of being a nation which is an extremely relevant topic in the times we are living. Footnotes is at the same time a Marxist and a structural study that with its, at times, ironic distance gives the result of a moving film on a sensitive topic.“
The RIFF Talent Lab, a three day workshop, is organized as an opportunity for young talent from Europe and America to meet in Reykjavik and experience what is brewing in the world of cinema, on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Apart from submitting a short feature, they converse, attend lectures, get acquainted and do the necessary networking. Plus – they get to visit Iceland! This year the Talent Lab welcomed young people from Ireland, Spain, Finland, Bosnia Herzegovina, Germany, Portugal, Greece, USA, Romania, Denmark, Canada and Turkey – and of course Iceland.
The result of the work done in the Talent Lab, the features themselves, ultimately compete for the Golden Egg, presented to a young a promising filmmaker.
