Charlotte Sieling

Director

Director, scriptwriter, actress. Born 13/7 1960, Denmark. Graduated from the Danish National School of Theatre in 1985 and, as scriptwriter, from the National Film School of Denmark in 1995.

Sieling has established herself as one of Denmark’s strongest television directors with series like ‘Unit 1’, ‘Better Times’, ‘The Killing’ and “The Bridge’. Internationally, she has directed for American series such as ‘Queen of the South’, ‘Homeland’ and ‘The Americans.’

Sieling made her directorial feature film debut with ‘Above the Street below the Water’ (2009), which was selected for Cannes Film Festival. Her second feature ‘The Man’ (2017) screened at a number of international film festivals. The historical epic ‘Margrete the First’ (2021) is her third feature.

From 1985 to 1994, Sieling worked as an actress in different theatres, from the experimental stage to the Royal Danish Theatre, her roles including Ophelia in Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ and Esmeralda in Victor Hugo’s ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’. Her performances on film and television include the Swedish mini series ‘Rosenbaum’ (1993), Jon Bang Carlsen’s ‘Carmen & Baby Face’ (1995) and Carsten Sønder’s ‘Love Me, Love Me Not’ (1995).
