Ugla Hauksdóttir is an Icelandic writer-director based in New York City. Her journey began in the highly esteemed Fine Arts program at The Cooper Union where she studied photography and experimental film. After making her first short film, Ugla went on to study screenwriting and directing in the MFA Film program at Columbia University. In 2016, Ugla was awarded the prestigious Director’s Guild of America Student Film Award for ‘Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Women’s Category’ for her graduation short film How Far She Went (2016).
Since 2017, Ugla has worked internationally as a film and TV director. Her credits include Hanna (Amazon), Snowfall (FX) and Trapped (RVK Studios). In 2020, Ugla is set to direct two episodes of Amazon’s new series The Power, based on the bestselling novel by Naomi Alderman and produced by Sister Pictures.
Ugla has directed a number of short films and music videos and is currently developing her first feature film. Ugla is a member of The Director’s Guild of America.
