{"id":16023,"date":"2021-10-05T17:02:44","date_gmt":"2021-10-05T17:02:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/riff.is\/?p=16023"},"modified":"2021-10-06T10:36:43","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T10:36:43","slug":"holland-is-in-focus-at-riff-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riff.is\/en\/holland-is-in-focus-at-riff-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Holland Is in Focus at RIFF 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">Benedetta, screened at Cannes, and a selection of newly released films that are making a real splash in film festivals this year<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Holland will be in focus at Reykjav\u00edk International Film Festival \u2013 RIFF that will open its doors to the 18<sup>th<\/sup> edition with a bang on the 30<sup>th<\/sup> of September next month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A great diverse selection of Dutch films will be screened at the festival and prominent guests will be attending from the Dutch film industry both in relation to our special <strong>Dutch Day on the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> of October<\/strong> and to give talks at <strong>RIFF industry days<\/strong> as well as to introduce their films that will be shown at the festival and RIFF@Home on riff.is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our team is almost finished securing an amazing lineup for the festival and the rest of the program will be announced in the following days and weeks. It is now possible to secure tickets and festival passes on our website <a href=\"https:\/\/riff.is\/en\/ticket-information\/\">riff.is.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At <strong>Dutch Focus,<\/strong> we&#039;ll be screening many great shorts as well as series from The One Minute Program in co-operation with <a href=\"http:\/\/theoneminutes.org\/series\/mind-body-problem\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The One Minute Foundation<\/a> around the city. An outstanding selection of full-length features will be shown in B\u00ed\u00f3 Parad\u00eds and virtually at RIFF Home. We are proud to announce that <strong>Paul Verhoeven&#039;s Benedetta<\/strong> will be one of our Dutch titles. The film created quite a stir as the opening film at the Cannes film festival this summer, for its provocative sex scenes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Other exciting titles to be named are <strong>Don&#039;t Hesitate<\/strong>, a brand-new released thriller that was premiered at <strong>Tribeca<\/strong> earlier this summer, <strong>Dramagirl<\/strong> that received a special mention at the Rotterdam Film Festival earlier this year, <strong>Dead and Beautiful <\/strong>that tells the story of wealthy upper-class young people in an Asian metropolis city, the crime movie <strong>Magic Mountains<\/strong>, a story about a successful writer who has money and fame but no peace of mind and asks his ex-girlfriend to join him for a final hike. Second last but not least is the film <strong>Feast<\/strong> which is based on true events in Holland about three men who drugged and infected other men with their own HIV-infected blood. And finally, <strong>Farewell Paradise<\/strong> is an auto-biographical documentary from the filmmaker Sonja Wyss in which she explores her own family&#039;s history in a mesmerizing manner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Holland has gained quite a reputation in the film industry over the years, especially when it comes to making documentaries. The Dutch festivals Rotterdam International Film Festival and IDFA are well known and respected in the film festival world and quite a few people hail from Holland in the international film industry. In 17th-century Italy, a nun who suffers from disturbing religious and erotic visions develops a romantic love affair with the woman tasked with assisting her. Overnight they seem to have developed a vicious bite and an acquired taste for the red stream of life. Consequently, the nocturnal beings roam the streets in search of delirium. In a symbolic gesture, he asks his ex-girlfriend Hannah to join him for a final hike together. Voytek, a professional mountain guide, is hired to accompany them but senses something sinister looming. In a hybrid approach, the film involves the perpetrators and victims in a dramatic reconstruction of the events. In the sixties, her family moved from the idyllic &quot;free and prosperous&quot; Bahamas to &quot;frugal&quot; and &quot;narrow-minded&quot; Switzerland.
