The Reykjav\u00edk International Film Festival, RIFF, will be held this fall for the 17th time. The festival will take place from September 24 to October 4. This year, the festival will receive a so-called Creative Europe \u2013 Media grant from the European Union of nearly 8 million ISK. RIFF is one of over 30 film festivals in Europe that received the grant, but there were around 100 applications. The grant is a lever for the festival and various provisions that accompany the grant regarding the program and implementation.<\/p>\n
"It is a good recognition of our work to receive the Media grant, which shows that we are on the right track. RIFF is on the international film festival map, it is considered to have a unique position in the European context, and professionals are closely following what we are doing. These days, we are working on shaping the festival's program, which will be somewhat unconventional following the situation in recent months. People definitely want to be able to go to the cinema after being at home for a long time, but we also intend to look for new and exciting ways to show our films," says Hr\u00f6nn Marin\u00f3sd\u00f3ttir, director of RIFF.<\/p>\n
The festival's program will be announced as the summer progresses. Those interested can follow the news on the festival's website and social media. The festival is also supported by the state and city and various companies and institutions.<\/p>\n

The organization is established in collaboration with about ten other film festivals, including the Irish film festival Galway Film Fleadh, the Geneva International Film Festival in Switzerland, the Festival de Films CINEMANIA in Canada, the Midnight Sun Film Festival in Finland, the Filmfest Hamburg in Germany and the Dutch festival Noordelijk Film Festival.<\/p>\n
The main purpose of the association is to provide a platform for European film festival leaders to share experiences, ideas and plans. It will also work on policy decisions on issues and common issues and develop ways to support the foundations of the film industry in various ways.
