Margaret I (<\/strong>MARGRETE THE FIRST)\u00a0 is the closing film of this year's Reykjav\u00edk International Film Festival - RIFF, which will be held for the eighteenth time on September 30th and runs until October 10th.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The film stars the renowned Danish actress Trine Dyrholm, who will be RIFF's guest of honor. Trine is also the chairwoman of the jury in RIFF's Visionary category, where nine films by young filmmakers will compete for the Golden Puffin, the festival's top prize.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>"It is a great honor to have Trine come to Iceland to participate in the festival, as she is undoubtedly one of the most talented and respected actresses in the Nordic region today, and although she would have been sought elsewhere, she has received many awards for her performances. "It will be fun to introduce her to the industry here and to Icelandic audiences," says Hr\u00f6nn Marin\u00f3sd\u00f3ttir, director of RIFF, adding that in her honor, the film The Queen from 2019, starring Trine, will also be screened, for which she won the main prize at the Gothenburg Film Festival. Trine will chat with the audience at B\u00ed\u00f3 Parad\u00eds on that occasion.<\/p>\n

The blockbuster film Margr\u00e9t the First is a collaborative project of all the Nordic countries and is one of the most expensive films ever produced in the Nordic countries. The film premiered last Wednesday to a great reception in Copenhagen and was attended by the film's co-producer Kristinn \u00de\u00f3r\u00f0arson from True North and actresses Tinna Hrafnsd\u00f3ttir and Halld\u00f3ra Geirhar\u00f0sd\u00f3ttir, both of whom play important roles in the film.<\/p>\n

Joining Trine on this year's jury are actor, director and producer G\u00edsli \u00d6rn Gar\u00f0arsson, actress An\u00edta Briem, director and screenwriter Gagga J\u00f3nsd\u00f3ttir, and Yorgos Krassakopoulos, program director of the prestigious Thessaloniki Film Festival in Greece.<\/p>\n

The film tells the story of Queen Margrethe, who dedicated her life to the creation of the Kalmar Treaty, which was the beginning of Scandinavia as we know it today and the brotherhood that reigns there. Queen Margrethe rules Sweden, Norway, and Denmark through her adopted son, Erik. A conspiracy puts Margrethe in a dire situation that could destroy her life's work, the Kalmar Treaty.<\/p>\n

The film is a true superwoman's contribution to filmmaking because it is about one of the most influential women in Nordic history who was ahead of her time and is directed by\u00a0Charlotte Sieling<\/strong>\u00a0one of the leading Nordic directors today, previously directing The Bridge, The Killing and Homeland. Never before has a film of this magnitude been produced in the Nordic countries.<\/p>\n

Tine has previously received 27 awards and 26 nominations for best performance in both leading and supporting roles.<\/p>\n
