UngRIFF, a film festival for children and youth, opened today for the second time at Sm\u00e1rab\u00ed\u00f3. The President of Iceland, Halla Tomasdottir<\/strong>, held the festival and presented awards for important contributions to children's culture, in the presence of hundreds of young people who provided tremendous support. The awards went to Syria Studio<\/strong> for their outstanding pioneering work in the field of dubbing and their extensive expertise in that field over many years. They were welcomed by Sveinn Kjartansson, Managing Director of Studio S\u00fdrlands.<\/span><\/p>\n

UngRIFF is held in conjunction with the Reykjav\u00edk International Film Festival, RIFF, which begins at H\u00e1sk\u00f3lab\u00ed\u00f3 tomorrow, Thursday, September 26. A number of children's and youth films are being screened at UngRIFF this year, with the opening films coming from Finland, Hnerri and Skvetti and the search for the lost holes<\/em> which is intended for children in grades 1 to 6, but for older <\/span>elementary school students was the Norwegian film Lars is LOL<\/em> for exhibition. Sneeze and Splash<\/em> was shown under the play's reading by \u00de\u00f3runn Erna Clausen, but Lars is LOL<\/em> was subtitled. The films are also shown in Skjaldborgarb\u00ed\u00f3 in Patreksfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur and in Her\u00f0ub\u00ed\u00f3 in Sey\u00f0isfj\u00f6r\u00f0ur.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cUngRIFF is a knowledge center for young film enthusiasts in Iceland and its goal is to be a leader in education through films and filmmaking,\u201d says Hr\u00f6nn Marin\u00f3sd\u00f3ttir, director of RIFF. Presenters at the festival in Sm\u00e1rab\u00ed\u00f3i came from RIFF Youth Council<\/strong> which consists of \u00cdsad\u00f3ra \u00cdsfeld Finnsd\u00f3ttir, \u00d3tla L\u00edf Dr\u00edfu-Louisd\u00f3ttir Kotze, Matth\u00edas P\u00e1ll Atlason, S\u00f3ra Mist Sigur\u00f0ard\u00f3ttir and \u00deorkatl \u00deorr Thorlacius \u00derastarson. Elementary school students from all over the capital area were invited to Sm\u00e1rab\u00ed\u00f3 for the opening of UngRIFF \u2013 and children who live closest to Sm\u00e1ralindinn came to the venue on foot.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
