This is a traditional day at the Reykjav\u00edk International Film Festival.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is how it begins <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/news\/reykjavik-film-festival-iceland-filmmaking-bjork-hot-springs-1236171619\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">discussion <\/span><b>Variety<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about RIFF<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but the festival was held for the 21st time this year earlier this month and has attracted global attention for its unique appeal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>&quot;<\/b><b>&quot;RIFF is a key place for filmmakers to network and learn about film production in a small country with big production plans,&quot;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also says an article in Variety, one of the largest trade magazines in the film world. Variety&#039;s editor in the US, Pat Saperstein, was very impressed with RIFF and discussed, among other things, its unique features: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&quot;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Held in early October when temperatures are still mild and it&#039;s bright outside until the evening, the festival has a unique Icelandic flavor. Each year, RIFF director Hr\u00f6nn Marin\u00f3sd\u00f3ttir and her team host special events such as a swim-up cinema, visual food festivals and musical performances, such as \u00deungur knaifur, where the heavy metal band S\u00f3lstafir played an original composition during a screening of the Viking film Hrafninn fl\u00fdgur.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to Variety, the festival was attended by many of the world&#039;s major media outlets, including <strong>Euronews<\/strong>, <strong>Cahiers Du Cinema<\/strong>,<strong> the most prestigious and influential film magazine <\/strong>according to Harvard University Press, and <strong>Vogue Scandinavia<\/strong>, and media from Hungary, Lithuania, the United States, Greece and France, among others. RIFF was also a special focus for the Argentinian cultural magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/caligari.com.ar\/foco-riff-2024-festival-internacional-de-cine-de-reykjavik\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Caligari<\/a>, who wrote extensively about the festival, as well as writing film reviews of 16 films that were screened at RIFF this year.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The foreign media learned about the state of filmmaking in Iceland and visited Fagradalsfjall, where filming is currently underway. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fires,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a film by Ugla Hauksd\u00f3ttir. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baltasar Korm\u00e1kur also welcomed the group to RVK Studios in Gufunes, they visited old filming locations near Hvammsv\u00edk, and stopped at the bathing lagoon where owner Sk\u00fali Mogensen greeted industry professionals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly 200 people from the film world, including directors, directors of major film festivals such as Berlin and Cannes, and film producers, came to Iceland to participate in the festival and RIFF business days, where they discussed, among other things, new Icelandic films in production, the state of the film industry, and artificial intelligence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/culture\/2024\/10\/10\/film-in-the-land-of-fire-and-ice-euronews-culture-visits-the-reykjavik-international-film\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Euronews<\/strong> drew attention to the incredible growth of the festival<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&quot;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The festival was small at first and focused mainly on Icelanders who shot films abroad, but <\/span><b>&quot;RIFF has grown into a festival that is not only the largest film event in Iceland, but also an increasingly important destination for those who want to see the best in European cinema.&quot;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00d3lafur \u00c1rheim, film director who premiered <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aftermath<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, his first feature-length film at this year&#039;s RIFF, said in an interview with Euronews: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&quot;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s great to see how RIFF has grown and flourished into a major film festival that brings in influential guests of honor and showcases the best films of the year. I\u2019m thrilled that they still offer a space for small, independent films like mine. While it\u2019s still too early to say how RIFF will directly impact me and my film, I\u2019m incredibly grateful to be a part of the festival.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodinsider.com\/reykjavik-international-festival\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hollywood Insider<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared RIFF to other film festivals and assessed what makes RIFF a \u201cmodel film festival,\u201d which is believed to be due to RIFF\u2019s connection to Icelandic culture, \u201cwhich has given the festival a unique status that others have difficulty replicating.
