Following a screening of Will-o\u2019-the-Wisp, Jo\u00e3o Pedro Rodrigues<\/strong> joins RIFF for a special masterclass on a body of work that has reshaped the possibilities of queer cinema. One of Portugal\u2019s most important contemporary filmmakers, Rodrigues has been celebrated internationally for the precision, daring and freedom of his vision. Rodrigues has created films in which queer desire, eroticism, ritual and fantasy enter directly into conversation with the observed world. His cinema moves freely between documentary attention and myth, allowing bodies, identities and landscapes to become sites of transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his deathbed, his royal highness Alfredo, king without a crown, is taken back to distant youth memories and the time he dreamt of becoming a fireman. The encounter with instructor Afonso from the fire brigade opens a new chapter in the life of the two young men immersed in love and desire, and the will to change the status quo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bringing together film institutions and independent producers, the discussion will compare policy ambitions with realities on the ground and ask how success in a small production ecosystem should ultimately be measured.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
