A dreamlike magical realism pervades his work. His films are known for their meditative pacing and their seamless, dreamlike shifts between reality and inner worlds. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blissfully Yours<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2002) and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tropical Malady<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2004) quickly drew international attention, but it was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (2010) that won the Palme d\u2019Or in Cannes and brought him worldwide recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though Apichatpong\u2014affectionately called Joe by admirers\u2014may appear apolitical at first glance, his films often reflect underlying tensions: censorship, social constraints, and Thailand\u2019s repressed histories. Rather than making overt statements, he conveys through mood and atmosphere\u2014his cinema often resembling elusive, half-remembered dreams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In <em>Memoria (2021)<\/em> Tilda Swinton wanders Bogot\u00e1 haunted by a sound only she can hear. What follows is a strange, exquisite dream of memory and time, half-remembered, half-imagined.
