Synopsis
Female bodybuilders’ extreme appearance makes them outcasts. Going under the armor of muscle, what are the reasons lying behind their lifestyle? An exploration of bodybuilding through empathy and understanding.
Director’s Bio

Born in 1989, Anna Nemes graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts as a painter in 2014. Post-graduated as an art therapist from the University of Pécs in 2016. Presently she is a doctoral researcher at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. Her paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Europe since 2010.
Her debut, GENTLE (2022), co-directed by László Csuja, premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. It won the Best Director award at GoEast FF and at Cleveland FF and received the FIPRESCI Prize and the Audience Award at the 5th Brussels FF.
BEAUTY OF THE BEAST (2022), started as Nemes’ first filmic work ever, is an essay-documentary about female bodybuilding. The project received the Impact Award at Cannes March du Film in 2020 and premiered at the 2022 Sheffield Doc Fest.
