Director’s Bio

film director portrait
Babah Kalluk was born and raised in a small town in Nunvaut, Canada called Resolute Bay. His interest in art began as a child, when he had to find things to occupy himself in long dark winter months. When his mother bought him an Incredible Hulk comic book he was inspired, beginning by copying the comic’s art and eventually graduating to his own art. In his work he is largely inspired by Inuit myths and stories that have been passed to him by family and teachers. Kalluk has worked as an illustrator for projects such as the Nunavut Arts Festival and also illustrates books, including Taiksumani which contains the story Mahaha is based on.
