Hakan Ünal was born in Manisa - Turkey in 1977. Graduated from English Literature and Humanities in Eastern Mediterranean University in Cyprus. Later, he occupied in photography. In 2015, he directed and wrote his first short film entitled 'Orange'. This work won 30 international awards all around the world. His second short film ‘Crack in the Wall’ was selected for the Golden Panda International Film Festival's Industry Forum section, which was held in Vancouver, Canada, in 2017. Subsequently, it was selected for one of the best international short film projects in Short Film Lab which was held in Rotterdam and awarded best second short film Project in 17th İzmir Sinema Here Short Film Project Festival in 2017. In the same year, it became one of the 5th best international short film projects that were selected at the Rome Film Academy. He is working on his first debut feature entitled ‘Metamorphosis’ which was made the short list at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018, the finalist at the Jaipur International Film Festival.
