RIFF at Hlynur Pálmason’s premier at Cannes

Hrönn Marinósdóttir, Festival Director at the Reykjavík International Film Festival, is representing RIFF at Festival de Cannes this week along with our main programmer Giorgio Gosetti.

They will be present at the premier of Hlynur Pálmason’s film A White, White Day (Hvítur, hvítur dagur). Hlynur is nominated for the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at Cannes for his film. The rights of the film have now been sold both to France and Australia according to Variety.

Winterbrothers, Hlynur’s last feature film, premiered at RIFF in 2017 and was his first feature. Previously he had directed short films and his short film A painter (2013) won an award at RIFF.

Being at Cannes is one of the biggest networking opportunity for RIFF. It is a chance to meet new directors and see who is up and coming in the film industry today along with being able to got to screenings of new and interesting films  RIFF is one of Icelands biggest cultural events and has grown during it’s sixteen year run. Our honorary guests include, among others, Mads Mikkelsen, Susanne Bier, Jim Jarmusch and now Claire Denis. She will be present at RIFF this fall.
The films we show are unique and represent the best in cinema today. Many of the films we have screened have gone to win international awards, including at Cannes.
