The team at RIFF is deeply addened by the passing of Giorgio Gosettiwho served as Head of Programming at RIFF from 2011–2019. During those years, Gosetti played a vital role in shaping the festival’s artistic direction, bringing outstanding filmmakers and remarkable films from around the world to Reykjavík.
Gosetti was a respected film critic, journalist and programmer who was prominent in the international film festival community for decades. He was the founder and long-time director of Giornate degli Autori (at Venice Days), an independent side festival of the Venice International Film Festivaldedicated to auteur-oriented cinema and new voices in cinema. In his work as a programmer, writer and cultural activist, he placed great emphasis on supporting bold and original filmmaking and introducing audiences to new directors and perspectives from around the world.
At RIFF, Gosetti’s deep knowledge of cinema, curiosity, and generosity of spirit left a lasting mark on the festival. His commitment to discovering and supporting new talent helped shape RIFF’s programme for nearly a decade.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues across the international film community. His contribution to cinema, RIFFwill long be remembered.
