The festival takes place in Reykjavík. Our main venues are Háskólabíó and the Nordic House.
YouthRIFF is a sub-festival of RIFF that offers events and performances for children and young people. You can read more about it here.
RIFF screens films of all genres: feature films, documentaries and everything in between. Both international and Icelandic films are screened, both short and full-length.
All films screened at RIFF have English subtitles, except for YouthRIFF screenings, which have Icelandic subtitles.
Yes! RIFF is looking for volunteers to help with the festival every year. You can apply here.
Yes! RIFF is looking for interns every year to help with the festival. You can come and work on various projects in different departments within RIFF. Internship periods range from 3 to 6 months. You can apply for an internship here.
TICKETS
You can buy a Festival Pass and Discount Card on our website all year round. Single tickets go on sale online a week before the festival and the ticketing booth in Háskólabíó opens on the 22nd of September,
A Festival Pass gives the passholder unlimited access to all screenings at RIFF, special events excluded. A single ticket is only valid for one screening.
Yes! From the 22nd of September, ticket sales will be open in the ticketing booth in Háskólabíó. There, you will be able to redeem gift cards, buy a Festival Pass/Discount Card, single tickets and merch. Please note that tickets are not sold onsite at the Nordic House.
When you buy a ticket online, you will receive a QR code via email that you will need show at the door to gain entrance to a screening. If you prefer, you can also get a printed ticket in the ticketing booth in Háskólabíó.
RIFF offers a 20% discount on Festival Passes for students and senior citizens when presenting a valid student ID at the ticketing booth in Háskólabíó. Children's tickets for children under 12 years old are available online and onsite.
Single tickets are not refunded except if the screening is cancelled, and Festival Passes are non-refundable. You can exchange a ticket to a screening for another up to 30 minutes before the screening starts.

FILMMAKERS
Yes! RIFF accepts submissions from December to July. You can submit your film here.
Industry Days Accreditation gives people in the industry access to RIFF Industry Days at a discounted rate. You can apply for BASIC (includes access to the Industry Days program only), FULL (includes a festival pass and access to the Industry Days program), and FULL FILM STUDENT (includes the same as FULL at a discounted rate). ACCESSIBILITY
Yes, all screening rooms in Háskólabíó are wheelchair accessible. If you are in a wheelchair or have a mobility impairment and are on your way to a screening in room 4, please contact staff at the ticketing office to obtain elevator access. Parking spaces for people with mobility impairments are available at both Háskólabíó and the Nordic House.
