RIFF Winter Fest

FIRST TIME EVER RIFF WINTER FEST HONORS EFA!

RIFF presents for the first time ever RIFF WINTER FEST – A virtual cinematic showcase for the holiday season honouring the 2020 European Film Awards.

From December 10th until the 20th, RIFF brings a sneak peek of this year’s European Film Awards selection. Our program of 6 feature films, across genres and audiences, young and old, pays homage to this prestigious European Awards and the best of our European talent currently making waves in the international panorama.

Each year since 1988, the European Film Academy celebrates the European Film Awards recognising excellence in European cinematic achievements. The awards ceremony takes place in Berlin every second year. In the off years, the ceremony travels. Reykjavik was to be the 2020 destination, but plans changed when the world was put on a hold. We’re still thrilled that our beloved city will host them physically in 2022!

“We had been looking forward to show our guests everything that Reykjavík, as well as the Icelandic film and creative industries, have to offer. But this is the only sensible decision to make at this time.  In two years’ time, hopefully we will have overcome the virus and it will be only more exciting to host this amazing event in Harpa, our beautiful concert hall and conference center.  See you in Reykjavík in 2022!” Dagur B. Eggertsson, Mayor of Reykjavik

The 2020 celebration continues though, as grand as possible and in a virtual format! – adapting to the unique circumstances we live in. And so does RIFF. While we enjoy the live-stream of the European Film Awards from the comfort of our homes, RIFF offers you a delightful selection of nominated films for this prestigious European recognition. A first-ever EFA online showcase streaming from this Thursday 10 at watch.rifff.is
