RIFF invites you to warm up for the festival with European short films. The screenings will take place at Tónabíó and Laugardalslaug swimming pool.

ONE MINUTES AT LAUGARDALSLAUG
16:00-20:00
RIFF presents one-minute films from across Europe in collaboration with the One Minutes organisation. The screening will take place in an unusual setting, with the films projected onto the screen at the indoor pool at Laugardalslaug. Two series will be shown: Deep Blue, curated by Icelandic artist Arnar Ásgeirsson in 2014. The series won RIFF’s One-Minute Film Competition in 2014 and will be screened again this year. The second series, Akwatik, was curated for the Kinemastik Short Film Festival in Malta.

European Summer Shorts
19:30-23:00
It’s summer in Europe. In a program curated by Aleksandra Lawska, filmmakers explore desire, connection and the fragile boundaries between private life and shared reality. From heat-soaked romance and fading summer dreams to online intimacy, secrets and fast-spreading rumours, these films blend realism with the surreal to reveal how people seek closeness in an increasingly connected yet isolating world.
Some films are rated R.
Social network
Tónabíó, 19:30 (76 mínútur)
The internet can feel isolating, yet it remains a vital space for human connection. Across these films, characters seek intimacy online: a daughter teaches her mother to navigate the web, a teenager finds a crush in a video game, and a Romanian town encounters the emerging internet. From social-media dissociation to late-night scrolling for sex, technology changes—but the longing for connection endures.

Rumour has it
Tónabíó, 21:10 (81 mínútur)
Gossip is like a cut-open feather pillow: once scattered, it can never be fully gathered again. In the digital world, rumours spread faster, reshaping reality and threatening reputations. These short films explore secrets, ethical dilemmas and the tension between private needs and social expectations—asking whether to gather the feathers or let them fly.

As the summer heat intensifies, so do our hidden dreams, tensions and desires.
