RIFF, the Reykjavík International Film Festival, has prepared a rich international film program along with teaching materials that will be offered to all preschool and primary school students in the country until January next year, free of charge to the schools.
The purpose is to promote film culture and film literacy among children and adolescents and to demonstrate how the medium of film can be used purposefully in teaching. The program is tailored to children and adolescents from the ages of 4-16 and is sent to all schools in the country.
RIFF organizers would like to encourage teachers to show the short films and use them in lessons, but also point out that the films can be viewed at home in the classroom via riff.is for a small fee.
The program consists of a variety of short films and is accompanied by teaching materials that teachers can use as a basis for discussion in connection with the films. There are a total of about 30 short films from over 20 countries, most of which are European. They deal with current issues and are tailored to each age group.
"It discusses social issues such as the environment, equality, bullying, homosexuality, love, and loneliness." Our goal at RIFF is to promote film literacy, to inspire, stimulate, create discussions, provoke reactions and get younger audiences to think differently about important issues through this powerful medium that is film, says Hrönn Marinósdóttir, director of RIFF.
The program consists of five short film categories that are suitable for each age group. Each category contains 5-9 short films and is 50-90 minutes long in total. The program is available in schools until January 31, 2022, and each short film category comes with support materials for teachers that can be used in teaching. The curriculum is based on group work, discussions, reflection and critical thinking.
Many of the short films are well suited as supplementary teaching materials for subjects already taught in pre-schools and primary schools across the country. This will be a great opportunity to combine effective short films with teaching, where different topics are contextualized in this creative medium.
International Film Festival thanks Art for everyone Thank you very much for the support.
The program is also available in HOME RIFLE for those who want to spend quality time with their children at home in the living room.
