The MovieMaker magazine has named RIFF, the Reykjavík International Film Festival, one of the twenty most important international film festivals of the year. The results were published yesterday on the magazine's website; https://www.moviemaker.com/20-essential-international-film-festivals/ and there RIFF is listed in the category of well-known film festivals such as San Sebastian, Rotterdam, Locarno, Mar Del Plata, CPHOX and Indie Lisboa.
"We at RIFF are very excited and grateful to have been chosen. These are very prestigious festivals that attract tourists, journalists and filmmakers," says Hrönn Marinósdóttir, director of RIFF.
The twenty festivals are considered essential on the calendar, according to the report. "If you have the opportunity to attend them, you should." And further says: "If you are a filmmaker who has had your film screened at the relevant film festivals, we should interview you because you are either a hit or on the verge of a hit."
"The magazine wants to draw attention to and celebrate film festivals, not only the five largest in the world, which are Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Sundance and Berlin, but also prestigious festivals that are extremely important in drawing attention to filmmaking in the respective country and in drawing attention to quality filmmaking."
RIFF is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Reykjavík, as well as a number of institutions and companies. RIFF presents new Icelandic works in progress and shines a spotlight on what is well done in Icelandic filmmaking.
