Homage to Dimitri Eipides is another category inspired by a memory of a friend whom passed away this year, Dimitri Eipides, head curator for RIFF in the years 2005 – 2010. In those starter years of the festival Dimitri molded the niche of the festival and put together the main competitions, New Visions, which focuses on the work of young and upcoming filmmakers.
In his long and successful career Dimitri worked both as a curator and director for many prominent film festivals like Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece and Toronto Film Festival just to name a couple.
In Dimitris honor RIFF is screening four of his favorite films which are the Greek masterpiece Dogtooth (2010) directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Favorite), Taxidermia, Kinbajku – The Art of Bondage and Even Dwarfs Started Small.
On the 6th of October at 17:00 current director of Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Yorgos Krassakopolous, and former college of Dimitri will say a few words in memory of Dimitri and about the film Dogtooth which is screened right after.
Another special program category is dedicated to a member who passed away during the year, Dimitri Eipides, RIFF's program director from 2005-2010. During these early years of the festival, Dimitri played a decisive role in shaping the direction and setting up the festival's main competition section, Visions, where the work of emerging filmmakers is given priority. During his long career, Dimitri has worked extensively as a program director and festival director, working for years at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in Greece and the Toronto Film Festival, to name a few. RIFF is screening some of Dimitri's favorite films at the festival.
Today the Greek masterpiece is on display Dogtooth (2010) by director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster, The Favourite). The screening will be preceded by a short introduction by Yorgos Krassakopolous, current program director of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and Dimitris' colleague.
Dogtooth is shown again on Saturday at 9:10 PM, but also shows Taxidermy at 6 pm and Kinbaku – The Art of Bondage at 9:45 p.m. that day.
