Among this year's guests is internationally acclaimed actress, filmmaker and singer Maria de Medeiros, who will receive the RIFF Honorary Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement.
Maria de Medeiros is one of Portugal's most celebrated screen artists. Over a career spanning more than four decades, she has appeared in films across multiple languages and established herself as a major figure in both European and international cinema. She first gained worldwide recognition in Philip Kaufman's Henry & June (1990) before becoming instantly familiar to audiences around the globe as Fabienne in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction, one of the defining films of its era and winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
As a director, de Medeiros has also made a significant contribution to Portuguese cinema. Her feature Capitães de Abril (April Captains), depicting Portugal's 1974 Carnation Revolution, premiered in the the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes.section at the Cannes Film Festival. Throughout her career she has collaborated with many of Europe's leading filmmakers and received numerous international honours, including the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival.
RIFF presents a special screening of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, attended by Maria de Medeiros, and offers guests burgers and a shake inspired by the film in collaboration with Tommi's Burgerjoint. Get tickets here:
