New films straight from the biggest fall festivals, comedy, drama, horror films and documentaries on interesting topics

A selection of the best in international cinema will be on display at the Reykjavík International Film Festival, RIFF, which will be held for the 17th time on September 24th. The focus will be on European cinema in celebration of the EFA Awards, which will be presented in Iceland in December. Many films will come to Iceland directly from the big autumn festivals that take place in early September, such as Venice, Toronto and San Sebastian, so they will be Nordic and European premieres.

The program will be announced in the coming days, but here are eight films that show the breadth of the program; crime and horror films mixed with drama and comedy and documentaries of the best kind. The films will be shown on the website riff.is, so all citizens can now enjoy the program and others who do not have access to it at home.

A selection of films will also be screened at Bíó Paradís and the Nordic House in accordance with the current rules on gatherings. RIFF will have a rich program during the 11 days of the festival, but will also host film screenings in October and November. These screenings are intended as a bridge to the European Film Awards EFA, which will be presented in Iceland in December.

The films will be screened using Festival Scope and Shift72, the same web interface used at a number of well-known film festivals including CPH PIX, Midnight Sun in Finland, Galway Film Fleet and Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

The festival's screening and ticket sales schedule will be announced closer to the festival on the RIFF website and social media.

RIFF enjoys the honor of being a city festival and therefore receives support from the City of Reykjavík, as well as the Ministry of Culture, the Icelandic Film Centre, and MEDIA-Creative EUROPE. RIFF is sponsored by TVG Zimsen and RÚV.

The first films we are presenting are 200 Metres/200 Metres directed by Ameen Nayfeh, Get the Hell Out/Hunskastu út directed by Wang I-Fan, Last Days of Spring/Last Days of Spring directed by Isabel Lamberti, AL´abordage/At the helm directed by Guillaume Brac, Miss Marx/Miss Marx directed by Súsanna Nicchiarelli, André and His Olive Tree/André and His Olive Tree directed by Josiah Ng, Punta Sacra directed by Francesca Mazzoleni and Aalto directed by Virpi Suutari.
