The Reykjavík International Film Festival was first held November 17–25, 2004, presenting a 16-film programme at Regnboginn, Háskólabíó, and the Reykjavík Art Museum. The programme was dedicated to Icelandic voices in international filmmaking, such as those of Solveig Anspach, Guy Maddin, Sturla Gunnarsson, and Helgi Felixson.
