Swim-In Cinema at RIFF 2021

Swim-In Cinema has always been one of the most popular special events at RIFF through the years. We don’t mean to brag, but we do make sure it’s extra special each year with unexpected events and a unique atmosphere! This year will be no different.

On the 1st of October at 19:30, we will screen the Wes Anderson’s “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” which is fitting to screen at a swimming pool as it takes place in and under water. This cult classic features many famous actors – Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, and Anjelica Huston to name a few of the all-star lineup – and is filled with humor and Anderson’s characteristic whimsical sense of color in every shot.

The story centers around marine explorer, Steve Zissou, who is working on a new documentary when his partner dies in an unusual shark accident. Steve and his crew embark on an expedition to find the shark, encountering many adventures along the way.

The movie’s well-known soundtrack also fits in with RIFF’s special focus on Music in Film this year. Brazilian singer Seu Jorge sings covers of David Bowie songs throughout the film. In addition, music by Icelandic band Sigur Rós is featured during a key scene in the film.
